Homemade Hummus with Dry Chickpeas

Use dry chickpeas to make a creamy and delectable hummus from scratch. A more flavorful and conventional substitute for store-bought hummus is this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup dry chickpeas
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt, to taste
  • Water, as needed
  • Paprika and olive oil, for garnish

Instructions:

Start by soaking the dry chickpeas in water overnight or for at least 8 hours

Drain and rinse the soaked chickpeas

In a large pot, add the chickpeas and enough water to cover them

Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 1-1

5 hours or until the chickpeas are very tender

Drain the cooked chickpeas and let them cool slightly

In a food processor, combine the cooked chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, minced garlic, olive oil, ground cumin, and a pinch of salt

Blend until the mixture is smooth, adding water as needed to reach your desired consistency

Taste and adjust the seasoning by adding more salt or lemon juice if needed

Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl and drizzle with olive oil and a sprinkle of paprika

Serve with pita bread, fresh vegetables, or as a dip for your favorite snacks
